Our instructors share their favorite words to live by on and off the bike.
“Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and forgiving heart, one who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them.”
So this quote is a little on the softer side of what usually catches my attention. I’m more of a tough love kind of person, but I really like this one for a few reasons.
I’ve found that I’ve become much more nurturing, patient and understanding since becoming a mother (crazy, I know).
I think it’s much harder to be kind and forgiving than it is to be rigid and well, mean. It’s easier to write someone off or end a relationship than it is to stay and work on it and work through it. That effort takes character, and it can be draining and challenging. I have personally found that learning to forgive leaves you feeling lighter and more content (this is coming from the world’s biggest grudge holder).
As an instructor, I feel like it’s my duty to make my riders feel better when they walk out than they did when they walked in. Everyone in class had a different day: Some need more motivation than others, some need to be picked up, and some are already in a great mood and want to continue that high. As the quote says, “Leave people better than you found them.” I love the fact that I am able to make that happen on a daily basis.
