Find out more about one of The Handle Bar’s newest instructors, Raisa Hoffman.
Raisa, Boston native, developed a love for fitness when she joined her high school’s cross country team out of mere curiosity. Her love of running transformed into a new passion when she developed an ankle injury and was told she could only take cycling classes. During this period of time, she was introduced to The Handle Bar, and loved it so much she could not believe she had made it this far in life without it.
When Raisa is not teaching classes, she can be found acting on stages in Boston and the South Shore area. Raisa loves the performance element to teaching and is thrilled to be pursuing both of her passions at the same time. Raisa’s classes are high energy, fun and gritty, with some Beyonce, throwback hip-hop, trap, EDM, and an occasional tear-jerker all sprinkled in the mix.
How did you discover The Handle Bar? What inspired you to audition?
One of my longest and closest friends, Falon Sweeney, worked as a Handle Bar blogger and was part of the #HBFam desk staff when Southie opened in summer 2013. When she went abroad in January 2014, she encouraged me to apply for her old job at HB. I fell absolutely in love with spinning at The Handle Bar.
The positive vibes, the music, the incredible team and community was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. My love for fitness, music, performance, and The Handle Bar itself is what inspired me to pursue teaching here, and I couldn’t be happier.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I can read, write, and speak backwards completely fluently. This ‘skill’ is completely useless but makes a killer fun-fact! Feel free to ask me about it, I’ll gladly demonstrate.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
Horse – they can be both graceful and clumsy, strong yet sensitive, and they are very social and loyal!
If your life could be summed up in ONE song, what would that song be?
“Get Me Bodied” by Beyonce-
“I ain’t worried, doing me tonight, a little sweat ain’t never hurt nobody”
….basically sums it up!
Sign up to catch Raisa on the podium at The Handle Bar Fenway and Harvard Square.
