Our feisty, passionate Alexa Moccia takes on Florida and says goodbye to The Handle Bar – for now. Read on for her personal note to the whole HBFam.
To my Handle Bar Family,
It is with such a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye (for now) to you. By the time you guys read this I will have touched down in FL… tanning, roller-blading, enjoying happy hour, and inevitably missing you all tremendously. As many of you know, I had to cut my time at The Handle Bar short to move down to FL for a dental residency… but please don’t think that I made that decision without considering this incredible community. It was one of the hardest choices I have ever had to make.
Every time you walk into The Handle Bar, one of the first things you see is our motto: Sweat. Inspire. Transform. Raise the Bar. I would love to share with you what those words mean to me.
When I started at the HB I always thought this part – the “inspire” part – was my job; that I was supposed to be an inspiration to my riders. Well, I was only partly right. Riders, you inspire me every day. I can’t tell you how many times I would come to class stressed, tired, anxious… you name it. Every single time you were my inspiration. I never once got on that bike and did not want to give you 100% because I could see that you were matching me, even going beyond and giving me 110%. You pushed me to new limits, took me outside of my comfort zone, and made me constantly want to be better for you. I joined the HB team without understanding why they referred to it as a family. I can definitely say now that I get it. Being a part of that family has been a source of support, love, motivation, pride, and inspiration. That family is made up of both staff and riders alike.
You have changed my life. There are really no words to express my appreciation to you; I wish that I had them.
Watching you all grow as individuals and as a community has touched my life in such a special way. I can only hope that I have helped some of you find a transformation also. And know that transformation is not in the physical sense, as it’s easy to expect with group exercise classes, but rather an internal transformation. That’s where the true beauty lies. You are all such beautiful people, and I have been blessed to have you in my life. I feel such a connection to each of you, especially to you all at HSQ because I got to start with you and watch you fight, struggle, grow, and always persevere. You must find that beauty inside yourself and trust that everything you want is within reach, as long as you never give up.
Raise the bar.
Set it. Reach it. Raise it. Each of us is on our own journey, inside that room and outside of it. Wherever you are, know that you have my support and love in getting yourself to that next level and achieving your goals. These are really a few powerful few words, though. It goes beyond just setting new goals. In everything you do, I encourage you to try and raise the standards and bring those around you to new levels. Nothing has been more rewarding than seeing the HB community set roots and flourish through kindness, encouragement, understanding, and love.
I’m sorry, I know I promised just a few words… but then this happened. I want you all to know how much I truly love you. You have made an imprint on my heart, and you will forever hold a place there. I’ll see you on the moon, baby.
